Biggest Loser causing drama…

So the biggest loser has premiered and causing some controversy in the industry!

Note: I mentioned that body fat couldn’t be measured in extremely obese people, well it can, but not effectively in the gym. It takes a lab or some very expensive equipment.

Color Coded BMI Charts – Really??

 So researchers have concluded that color coded BMI charts will improve parents understanding of the BMI measurement.

Note: BMI – Body Mass Index: Pretty much a height/weight comparison to the general population. Its very outdated.

Get off your Arse, greatest workout tip EVER!

I have been around gyms for quiet a while, and I have a general observation that is just robing people of their much wanted results!

People actually spend more time resting, walking around, drinking water, talking to others, talking on the phone then they actually workout!

Think about it? If you eliminated all of the “fluff” out of your current workout… how much time would you actually be working out? 15 – 20 minutes…. PERFECT!!!

Seriously! That’s all you need! If you are tight on time, go into each workout on a mission to get it done in 20 – 30 minutes!

“I don’t have time.” This has to be the number one excuse of all the lazy arses out there!

Of all the lame excuses I get for not working out, its the time one…that drives me nuts!

Now usually when someone tells me they don’t have time I relate that to one of two things: ONE – They are afraid of a little hard work and a little sweat. TWO – They simply don’t know what to do.

No Cell Phone. No Chit Chat. No five minute rests. Just get it done!

But Joe what if I don’t know what to do?

Ok, for this I have a simple answer.

First, chose four exercises that you already know how to do.

If you don’t know four, you know how to do a push-up, squat, jumping jack, and sit-up.

For ten minutes do 15 repetitions of each exercise back to back. Try to get through the four exercises as many times as possible. That’s it. Plain and simple, no fluff.

Another solution is seek help from a trainer or a join a group exercise class like FM Bootcamps.

Either way, get off your arse and get it done!

So your desperate…

You want to shed those twenty pounds.

You have tried dieting, exercising, and even eating nothing but grapefruit for a week.

You walk down the “organic” aisle at your local grocery store and you see a bright colored bottle that says “Shed twenty pounds!” or “Get Ripped! Be Sexy!”. Heck, the pills are only thirty bucks and they are going give me a six pack, count me in!!!

Now the truth about those silly little pills.

What’s in them?

The primary ingredient in almost all of the over the counter diet pills is caffeine. Forget about all the “proprietary blend” on the ingredient label, one way or another, caffeine is the primary ingredient.

OK… caffeine is a stimulant. Stimulants accelerate the body’s metabolic processes. By speeding up the metabolic processes, the body needs to consume more energy to keep up. And yes, fat happens to be a form of energy. This is good right?

Wrong! Your body is an amazing machine, it is constantly remaining in a state of balance, called homeostasis. What happens when your body becomes over stimulated from diet pills, it has to counter act by slowing your metabolism way down… this is the caffeine “crash” everyone talks about. This crash is part of the reason why diet pills don’t work. Your body’s metabolism speeds up and then WHAM! it slows way down to recover, then a few hours later, you take more! Its like taking two steps forward and three steps back!

It costs what?

Some of these pills can cost upwards to 40 – 50 bucks a bottle and most bottles only contain around a three to four week supply! That’s about the same cost as a gym membership!!

Take it from me, save your cash… spend it on something healthy, like fruit, vegetables, or chicken breast!

How to get sexy abs

Fat loss is a systematic response to the body’s need for energy. The more energy your body requires, the more fat you body will burn!

How do you get your body to burn more energy? Sorry to state the obvious… but you need to WORKOUT!! By simply increasing your muscle mass, you can increase the amount of energy your body requires, thus you burn more fat. (Ok I realize its more complicated then what I state, but this is the simple version)

So, in conclusion, save your money, save your time, diet pills are not worth the time or effort. Continue working out and focus on making progress week by week, and you too will have sexy Abs!

The Corn Refiners Association recently have been running a national ad campaign to change the public opinion of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Look at the ingredients label on pretty much any food HFCS is in pretty much everything!!

We have become a sugar addicted society, and now according to these guys, “its ok in moderation”.

What a bunch of garbage!!
